My Involvement
I loved how HICH teaches students that there's so much more to health besides just medicine. Public health and the social determinants of health are incredibly important factors that should be recognized, especially as a future physician. HICH gave me so many opportunities to become a leader. There was a lot of potential for growth and it gave me the ability to participate in things I really cared about. For instance, with creative care, art is a huge aspect of my life. Being able to create events centered around that was so worthwhile for me.
I was one of the original founding members of HICH. I was involved in creating the mission and structure of the organization as well as helping it grow. I participated in the Community Health Worker certification and Student Hotspotting. I also helped lead Creative Care.
Favorite Memory
One of my favorite memories was the summer that we were creating HICH. I remember it was me, Abel, and Matt trying to brainstorm ideas of what this organization should really be. There were moments of frustration but overall you could just tell how passionate we were about creating something truly sustainable. Some of my other favorite memories involved breakfast for dinner at Erica's place where we could just relax and get to know each other better.
